‘South Park’ Creator On Sequel For ‘The Stick Of Truth’

By now, if you’ve heard the words South Park over the last month then you’ve heard about the new controversial video game The Stick Of Truth. The video game, which was created by South Park’s co-creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, has been censored for a slew of thematic material such as its use of swastikas, abortion, and anal probe scenes.

Despite the controversy the South Park video game has incited, Matt Stone isn’t saying no to a potential sequel with fellow South Park creator Trey Parker. In fact, it looks like both parties are very much excited about exploring the potential of a sequel game for the South Park series. Matt Stone opened up to IGN in an interview and commented on the possibility:

“We’ll see how it’s received. This was a hellacious undertaking – much more than when we signed up for it. Never say never. I would do it again, in some fashion. I think that video games are really interesting.”

In addition to talking about the possibility of the South Park game getting a sequel, Matt Stone also spoke about the origins of how the game came to be. Unlike developing South Park, this was a bigger feat to take on:

“I think we got into it casually. [We said], ‘Oh that’d be cool to do a video game.’ Visually, technical stuff…we can figure that out.”

Stone continued that transitioning from television to the game world was a bit of a challenge in terms of getting their signature South Park tone right.

“You sit and watch South park [on TV] a certain way [and] a game is consumed a certain way. It engages different parts of your brain. The natural rhythms of comedy that we know pretty well from the TV comedy universe, they’re different from a game. And they have to be different, and you can’t resist it. You have to go, ‘Yeah, it’s gonna be different’ instead of being a joke. It’s gonna be a tool that you use that’s gonna be funny when you use it. I would start differently now if we started again.”

As reported, since the South Park’s game release its production was delayed in Germany and Austria for their use of the Nazi symbols. As for the game itself, The Stick of Truth is just your typical RPG game which involves dressing up Cartman, Kyle, and the gang in medieval clothes as you help the characters find “The Stick of Truth.”
