Pharrell Williams Collaborates With Comme Des Garçons Parfums For G I R L Scent
G I R L is rapper Pharrell Williams’ new album, and it is also the name of a custom scent he made in partnership with fashion house Comme des Garçons. The unisex scent will hit stores in September. The label is one of Williams’ favorites, calling it “the top of the top, the best of the best.”
Williams expressed his enthusiasm for his new project and he feels honored to be working with the brand. Adrian Joffe, the CEO for Comme des Garçons, said that Williams did not show up clueless in the collaboration, with the rapper knowing exactly how he wanted his scent to smell “right from the beginning.”
Williams released G I R L, his second album, on March 3. The album has 11 tracks and features some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Justin Timberlake, Daft Punk, Miley Cyrus, and Alicia Keys. Track seven, titled “Gust of Wind,” is Williams’ personal favorite, and features Daft Punk. “Brand New,” the second track, is where Justin Timberlake makes his appearance, and Miley Cyrus joins in on the sixth, titled “Come Get It”. Williams does a duet with Alicia Keys on the tenth track, “You Know Who You Are”.

It has been eight years since Williams’ first album In My Mind. Prior to his debut album, he released his first single “Frontin'” in 2003. Williams is known not only for his music but for his songwriting and production work as well. He and Chad Hugo are the duo behind The Neptunes, and they had been producing R&B, hip hop, pop, and soul music since the Nineties.
The Neptunes’ first worldwide number one hit came in the form of the single “I’m a Slave 4 U” by Britney Spears in 2001. They topped the U.S. charts with their production of Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” the following year. The production duo was awarded “Producers of the Year” at the Billboard Music Awards and The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards in 2002.
Another accomplishment by Williams is his work on the animated movie Despicable Me, in which he composed the soundtrack. Together with composer Hans Zimmer, he also composed and produced the music for the 84th Academy Awards. Williams also collaborated with other artists, co-writing two tracks for Adam Lambert’s album, and producing tracks for rapper Mac Miller’s Pink Slime EP, among other projects. He has won seven Grammy awards for his work.
Even before he teamed-up with Comme des Garçons, the rapper-songwriter-producer had also ventured into the world of fashion, co-founding the brands Ice Cream and Billionaire Boys Club.
