Robbie Lawler VS John Hendricks: UFC 171 Would Have Been Won By More Punches?

The UFC 171 results are in and Robbie Lawler has lost to John Hendricks based upon points.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, if Ronda Rousey went up against Floyd Mayweather in a UFC fight she claims the boxer would “run away” from her.

Hendricks won his UFC 171 match by outpointing Lawler for the majority of five rounds, but it was still a close match. In the end, the judges decided Hendricks won with a score of 48 to 47.

The two MMA fighter exchanged blows throughout each round, with several attempts at a knockout. When Robbie Lawler landed a mean left, Hendricks just grinned and continued fighting back hard. Hendricks says he felt the fight was his for the first several around but became worried near the end:

“I feel very blessed. I knew the first two [rounds] were mine. The second and third he kind of caught me … Fifth round, I knew I had to win it, and I did it.”

The fifth round was a flurry of blows being traded back and forth. But Hendricks managed to score one more takedown before the time expired. Robbie Lawler believes that if he had just managed to throw a few more punches he could have gained the points necessary to win:

“The thing is, when you leave it up to the judges, those things happen. I just didn’t do enough tonight, they thought, and I need to go back to work, obviously work on some things. Maybe work on throwing some more punches. I should have done more in the fight, thrown more punches, thrown more kicks, and took him out. I didn’t do it tonight and he fought a helluva fight. I wanted to stop him. I was looking to finish and I didn’t.”
