Michigan State coach Tom Izzo, who has been with the Spartans since becoming Jud Heathcote’s assistant in 1983, said the rivalry between the Spartans and Wolverines has gone back and forth over the years.

“Well, we’ve gone through a lot of things over my 20, 25 years, I think, of being an assistant and then a head coach,” Izzo said. “I think when Jud was here, it ended up pretty even, wins and losses. Then we went through the Fab Five era and then I took over and got my tail kicked for quite a while. And then we did some kicking.”

“We’ve got six of our eight that play can make 3s,” Beilein said. “And, as a result, when you have that many guys and pretty much they have different green lights, but they have green lights. So when they’re shooting it well, we can spread people out.”

Michigan could have more on the line than just the Big Ten title. Experts have them projected to go into the NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed, but a loss to Michigan State could knock them to a No. 2 seed.
