McDonald’s Offers Free Coffee To Elderly Couple Humiliated, Kicked Out Of Virginia Branch

McDonald’s, in an act of immense generosity, offered a coupon for two free small coffees as a way of saying sorry to Carl and Barbara Becker, the elderly couple their Culpeper, Virginia branch kicked out last week.

The two 80-somethings, halfway through their McDonald’s dollar sandwich, were booted out of the McDonald’s branch because according to the manager, their ‘half-hour’ was up and that they can no longer stay inside the restaurant.

The couple, who suffered from grave humiliation at the McDonald’s branch, received the coffee coupon shortly after news of their mistreatment went viral over the internet.

According to Yahoo! News, the coupon was a way for the McDonald’s corporate headquarters to express their apology for the embarrassment the two experienced at the McDonald’s branch.

However, as touching as McDonald’s gesture may be, Barbara Becker opted to return the coupon back to the McDonald’s officer who sent the free coffee vouchers.

Bob Drumheller, franchise owner of the Culpeper McDonald’s claims he has already phoned Carl and Barbara to express his personal apology for his staff’s shortcomings, promising that he will take an active part in honing the McDonald’s employees’ customer skills.

Barbara confirmed to have received the apology but still says that they will no longer go back to the particular McDonald’s branch.

Shawn Smokehouse BBQ, a local resto in Culpeper, promises to give the couple free meals for life. The barbecue joint also promises to give free coffee to all seniors and veterans every Wednesday as a recognition for their service during the war.

Facebook and Twitter users were outraged by the McDonald’s branch’s insensitive booting of the elderly couple.

Facebook user Chris Fleming was baffled by the ‘time limit’ imposed upon the two by the Virginia McDonald’s. Another user, Beth Parker comments that all people from Culpeper should boycot their local McDonald’s.

Another Facebooker, Barbara Furmidge, says that the incident was the “most ridiculous thing [she’s] ever heard”, adding that no one should be asked to leave regardless of the amount of purchase made.

Twitter user @DonMoyer tweeted his disdain over the McDonald’s incident:

Another Twitter user, @kimvallejo, says:

McDonald’s has been having a series of major problems this month. In a recent report here at the Inquisitr, an Indiana couple was found dead at the McDonald’s playroom reportedly from an overdose from heroin.
