Elizabeth Vargas’ Husband Confronts Affair Rumors

Elizabeth Vargas’ husband, Marc Cohn, has stringently denied having an affair while his wife recuperated in rehab for alcoholism.

Cohn, a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, allegedly committed adultery with the couple’s mutual friend, Ruth Zuckerman, the Flywheel Sports co-founder. The pair were spotted having dinner shortly after Vargas returned to Manhattan from her stint in rehab.

Cohn told the MailOnline through a spokesperson, “I have no comment regarding vicious rumors about a so-called ‘affair’.” He then continued, “I have encouraged and supported Elizabeth’s recovery as her years of struggle have been hard on everyone. Out of deference to my family’s privacy, I will not comment further.”

Vargas and Cohn are still believed to be living together, and haven’t separated despite the obvious toil that has come with the 20/20 anchor’s problems. Sources for the Daily Mail added that they have remained together because he wants to remain as “a stabilizing force for both Elizabeth and the children.”

Previously, an insider had told The New York Post that Cohn, who wrote the song “Walking In Memphis,” and Zuckerman had met up on several occasions and that their friendship had crossed a boundary during these altercations.

“It was disgusting that he was with Rush while Elizabeth was in rehab,” the source noted. “Marc made out he was an angel, standing by his wife while she was in rehab. But meanwhile, he started an affair with a mutual friend, Ruth Zuckerman.”

They then added, “A mutual friend spotted Ruth with Marc and called Elizabeth,” however another friend insisted that Ruth was actually a mutual pal before insisting that Vargas and Cohn had actually separated.

A final source then told the New York Post, “This isn’t a case of a husband wronging a wife while she struggled with her personal problems. Their marriage has struggled for a long while, but he has been a supportive husband and a loyal dad.”

Cohn’s own comments appear to clarify that the pair are still together and are trying to work through the various issues that have arisen because of Vargas’ problems with alcohol.

Vargas previously left a rehab facility back in November, just over a week and a half after she had entered, telling her legion of Twitter followers, “I am so much better and taking it one day at a time.”

When she decided to seek treatment she released the following statement:

“Like so many people, I am dealing with addiction. I realized I was becoming increasingly dependent on alcohol. And feel fortunate to have recognized it for the problem it was becoming.

I am in treatment and am so thankful for the love and support of my family, friends and colleagues at ABC News. Like so many others, I will deal with this challenge one day at a time. If coming forward today gives one other person the courage to seek help, I’m grateful.”
