Dad Bites Off His Newborn Son’s Nose Because He Wouldn’t Stop Crying

As hard as it may be to fathom, unfortunately its true. According to Fairfield News 10, Joshua Cooper, 18, allegedly bit off his own one-month-old son’s nose out of frustration because he would not stop crying. The publication reports that Cooper, a resident of Fairfield, California, has been charged with child cruelty and aggravated mayhem. He is currently being held at the at Solano County Jail.

Sgt. Troy Oviatt of the Fairfield Police Department issued an official statement in reference to the infant’s injury.

“The criminal investigation determined that the infant’s father had bitten the child’s nose off out of frustration from the infant crying. The investigation continues to determine how the infant sustained the skull fracture and brain hemorrhage.”

The Fairfield Police Department reported that they received a call yesterday morning around 8:00 a.m. from the infant’s “hysterical” 17-year-old mother. She claimed that her baby was bleeding from the nose. Officers arrived at the family’s Parkway Manor apartment home on the 1000 block of Alaska Avenue.

“It’s terrible. It’s terrible. Literally heartbroken. I can’t believe it,” said a neighbor who requested to remain anonymous.

“There was a substantial amount of blood,” Sgt. Oviatt said. “It was a fairly gruesome scene.”

After a preliminary assessment, the baby was rushed to the North Bay Medical Centre. Doctors discovered that the infant’s nose had been partially severed. The assessment also revealed that the infant had suffered a head trauma that consisted of a fractured skull and brain hemorrhage.

The police department stated that they are still trying to determine how the head trauma actually occurred. No further details have been released in reference to the head injury the infant suffered.

The baby has since been transferred to the Oakland Children’s Hospital, and is now in stable condition, reports Oviatt. It has also been reported that no information has been released in regards to Cooper’s legal representation. The child has also been placed in the custody of Solano County Child Welfare Services.
