Angelina Jolie Plans To Have Second Surgery

Angelina Jolie made headlines today when she announced she is planning to have more surgery to prevent ovarian cancer. Last year, Jolie admitted she had to have a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. She had the surgery because she was told she had an 87 percent chance of developing breast cancer because she carries the BRCA1 gene. Now, she plans on having another procedure to reduce her 50 percent chance of developing ovarian cancer. Jolie inherited the gene from her mother, Marchelina Bertrand, who passed away at 56 due to ovarian cancer.

Despite Jolie’s health issues the actress remains positive and tells Entertainment Weekly, “I’m great!..I’m very happy I made the decision. I feel very fortunate to have great doctors and very fortunate to have a good recovery and have a project like Unbroken to have something to be really focused on, to be getting healthy for, and just be able to get right back to work.”

Jolie also tells Entertainment Weekly that she chose to write about how this experience is effecting her,

“I feel very, very close-much closer-to other women, and women who are going through the same thing. Wherever I go, usually I run into women and we talk about health issues, women’s issues, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, I’ve talked to men about their daughters’ and wives’ health. It makes me feel closer to other people who deal with the same things and have either lost their parents or are considering surgeries or wondering about their children… the reason that I wrote it was to try to communicate and help and connect with other women and other families going through the same thing. And… I was very, very moved by all the support and kindness from so many people”

Angelina Jolie is setting a positive example for all women as she goes through this difficult time in her life. In order to maintain her focus, Jolie is still working hard on her acting career. She has a new Disney epic coming out called Maleficent. The film tells the story of Sleeping Beauty, but from the point of view of the evil, enchanted Queen Maleficent, portrayed by the one and only Angelina Jolie.

Another interesting fact about the film is the fact that the actress who plays young princess Aurora is Angelina’s 5-year-old daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt. This will be the debut of Vivienne’s acting career, and we are sure Angelina Jolie is thrilled to be starring in a movie with her daughter.
