UFC’s Chael Sonnen Gives Away WWE Executive Stephanie McMahon’s Phone Number
It seems that UFC Middleweight Chael Sonnen has a bit of an issue giving out high profile phone numbers. Sonnen was interviewed by TSN on Off the Record by host Michael Landsberg. Sonnen went over various topics, including what what was going on with his friend and WWE Superstar CM Punk.
Sonnen said that he didn’t know what was going to happen with Punk or whether he would be wrestling at Wrestlemania 30 or not. He said though, that Stephanie McMahon would be aware. Sonnen then held up a piece of paper with a phone number written on it and told those viewing to call the number on the paper.
He then told Stephanie, “tell Hunter I just played the game”. This is of course referring to a line from WWE Superstar Triple H where he says “It’s time to play the game”. Triple H also happens to be the head of talent relations for WWE as well.
Of course, TSN blurred the number out so that the home audience could not see it. Michael Landsberg and the OTR crew ended up calling the number afterward the interview and it was, in fact, the number of Stephanie McMahon. Obviously she was not happy to get the call. Who can blame her? No one really knows what possessed Sonnen to pull such an act.
The one thing that does come up with Sonnen is the friendship CM Punk. As many know by now, Punk walked out on WWE before an episode of Monday Night RAW back in January. He has not been back since, even in his home town of Chicago, IL. Obviously Landsberg was pulling a move to try and get answers out of Chael, who might have known something we would not have.
So the idea made sense, but no one saw Chael going this far. Yes, TSN did blur the number. The idea however, from Sonnen, is interesting to see.
Some have speculated that this has nothing to do with CM Punk, rather it’s Chael Sonnen’s way of potentially getting involved in Wrestlemania 30. The biggest annual pro-wrestling PPV of all time just so happens to be be coming up in a few weeks.
Could Stephanie McMahon or Triple H be in talks with Sonnen about an appearance at Wrestlemania? Maybe they are talking to him about an extended WWE run? There is a lot of potential with Chael Sonnen. Most feel that Sonnen is an entertaining promo artist for the UFC, and is basically a pro-wrestler in a “real sport”.
This could also be a force on by Chael. We do not know at this stage really. What we know for now is that Sonnen did wrong by Stephanie by giving away her number on TV, even if blurred. Chael Sonnen is a great athlete, but this would be a way to get on WWE’s bad side. So it wasn’t a smart move unless it was to get a major pay-off in some way.
