Marcia Gay Harden Talks Jamie Dornan And ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Role

Marcia Gay Harden is certainly on a career high. Not only did the actress have a role on the critically acclaimed show The Newsroom, but she’s regularly on a pretty comedic sitcom called Trophy Wife. In addition to her television work, Harden scored a pivotal role in the Fifty Shades of Grey series playing the mother of the S&M enthusiast Christian Grey.

Harden opened up about her role and the mystique surrounding the film’s star Jamie Dornan. From the moment he replaced Charlie Hunnam in the widely publicized role, he has been rather quiet and hasn’t made any moves to publicize his role or his new position in Hollywood. According to Marcia Gay Harden it’s a smart move for Dornan.

In an interview Harden gave a perspective on the importance of anonymity, especially when tied to a huge project like Fifty Shades of Grey:

“I think the point is to have somebody mysterious because if you have somebody with too much pedigree to them… you can’t stop thinking about the pedigree. You just can’t. It’s almost impossible in a film to do that…. I think that would be very hard to do for that role, so I think it’s good that he’s a bit of a mystery.”

Harden certainly has a positive outlook and is obviously championing Jamie Dornan. Although Dornan has shied away from the press, Marcia reveals that there’s a lot to love about Dornan, especially when considering his chiseled good looks, which more than likely won him the coveted role in the anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey film.

“He’s beautiful. He’s chiseled beauty and the camera eats it up. He’s an Irish boy…. A U.K.-based actor who has done a bit of film. He just had a baby (with wife Amelia Warner)…. He’s a sweet guy. He does surfing. He sings little Irish ditties occasionally.”

At 54-years-old Marcia revealed that her scenes weren’t the same tone with the material that Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson had to deal with. As Christian Grey’s mother we won’t be seeing the actress in any BDSM scenes.

“If you are not in the red playroom of pain and pleasure with some naked flesh in your face and a sex toy in your hand, the experience of shooting the movie is much like doing any other movie. I’m the mom. I’m momma Grey.”

Fifty Shades of Grey will be released into theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 13, 2015.
