Cat Traps Family In Bedroom, Father Calls 911, Tells Operator Cat ‘Has History Of Violence’

“Cat traps family” is a headline from the same stable as “man bites dog,”,that is to say the reverse of what one would expect.

But it happened in Oregon last Monday when a large cat (22 pounds!) attacked a baby, trapped a family, and (it gets better!) – their dog – in a bedroom.

According to Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sergeant Pete Simpson. the cat, a black-and-white Himalayan with a “history of violence,” scratched the family’s 7-month-old baby on the face on Sunday evening.

The baby’s father then kicked the cat which got it REALLY mad. The cat then made it clear in no uncertain terms that it was very angry, so the parents and baby, along with their dog, shut themselves in a bedroom. The father then called the police.

The cat, meanwhile, positioned itself outside the door, effectively blocking their exit. The 911 call operator could clearly hear the cat screeching as the father was explaining about the history of their “violent”cat.

When the police arrived, the cat ran into the kitchen and jumped on top of the refrigerator. The officers captured it with a snare and placed it in a portable kennel.

The police left the cat with the family, still safely in the kennel.

Sergeant Simpson said that he did not know whether the family intended to keep the cat or not.

He added that, in his 20 years with the Portland Police he had encountered many cases of dogs behaving badly, but this was the first time he had ever encountered a cat so fierce that it had managed to trap a family in a room.
