The Hunger Games Deleted Scene Revealed

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was already jam-packed with wall-to-wall action and emotion, but the release of the Blu-Ray and DVD this week revealed that theater audiences may not have gotten the whole story thanks to some deleted scene that add another layer of richness to the story.

In the deleted Hunger Games scene we see Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) enter triumphantly back into District 12 after her victory tour. Upon arriving at the train station, Katniss first embraces her younger sister Primrose and whispers in her ear: “Pack everything you can. We’re leaving.” A concerned Primrose backs away slightly from her sister as Katniss moves on to embrace her mother.

Katniss repeats nearly the same thing to her mother before Katniss acts to quickly escort the two of them from the train station. This deleted Hunger Games scene may not have had a huge impact on the theater experience, but it does add some context that the viewer didn’t know before. Namely, that the mother and sister of Katniss knew of the impending danger that surrounded the winner of the Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games DVD and Blu-Ray discs also include other features that fans of the movie may not want to miss. According to Hollywood Life, the discs include commentary from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence and producer Nina Jacobsen.

After this deleted scene from The Hunger Games, die-hard fans of the books and movies might need to wait a little while before they get their next taste of what is going to happen next. After The Hunger Games: Catching Fire made $860 million, there was no doubt the next installments to finish the series would be forthcoming. The next The Hunger Games sequel is scheduled to be released in November 2014. While there are only three The Hunger Games books, the last book will be split up into two movies.

The practice of breaking up the final book in a series that has been made into movies is not uncommon. Film studios did the same thing with the Twilight series as well as with the Harry Potter books and films.

The third and fourth installments of The Hunger Games series are set to be directed again by Francis Lawrence. Whereas the first two movies focused on the Hunger Games themselves, with the inklings of a rebellion to come, the third and fourth movies will detail the rebellion that comes to Panem thanks to the hope Katniss has provided to the nation.
