Powerball Numbers Yield No Big Winner, Only One Ticket Matches Five Numbers

The Powerball numbers drawn Wednesday night resulted in no jackpot winner and only one winner of the million-dollar second prize, after one ticket buyer won the Saturday drawing and a $60 million jackpot.

The winning Powerball draw on Saturday reset the jackpot to $40 million, and with no winners Wednesday, the drawing to be held March 8 will pay $50 million to the person lucky enough to match all six numbers — beating the 175,223,510 to 1 odds. If there is a winner.

Here were the winning Powerball numbers from Wednesday:

Even if you are not the one person who matched the first five numbers on a ticket sold in Virginia, you could still be a winner. With just 12,794,138 Powerball tickets sold for Wednesday’s drawing, there were 423,757 tickets that yielded some kind of prize, for a total of $4,133,027 in cash giveaways.

There were 44 players, according to the lottery-watchers at USAMega.com, who matched four numbers plus the Powerball number, taking home $10,000 each — except for the 11 who activated the Power Play option, doubling the prize to $20,000, and three in California who pocketed just $6,955 due to that state’s pari-mutuel payout system.

But Powerball players who matched four of the first five numbers but not the Powerball number won only $100, though of the 978 ticket holders who achieved that feat, 181 utilized the Power Play option to double that prize.

Again, Californians lost out. The 89 players there who matched four numbers won only $79 each.

Saturday’s jackpot is relatively small by Powerball standards and of course, $50 million is the annuity jackpot, meaning that the winner will collect $1,666,667 per year for 30 years. The lump-sum cash payment for a winner Saturday would be $28.7 million — $21,525,000 after the IRS takes its cut.

On February 19, a gas station in Milpitas, California, sold a Powerball ticket that won the sixth-largest lottery prize ever, $425.3 million. But neither that winner nor the winner of last Saturday’s $60 million Powerball jackpot, on a ticket sold in McClellan Park, California, has yet come forward.
