Jennifer Lopez And Rosie Perez Are Not Bitter Enemies
Jennifer Lopez and Rosie Perez probably won’t smack each other around anytime soon.
If you were hoping to see a battle between the actresses at some point down the road, then you should probably take a nap. The only time you’re going to see Lopez and Perez battle it out is in your wildest dreams.
So where did this particular Jennifer Lopez rumor originate? According to CNN, reports that Lopez and Perez hated one another have popped up in tabloids for years. Rosie recently explained that her alleged beef with Jennifer is nothing more than a ploy to sell magazines and earn ad revenue. Or, in her case, a new book.
“I don’t hate Jennifer Lopez. I have great respect for her. When I first saw her, I knew she was going to be a star. Yes, we had a tiff and it was 20 years ago. It’s unfortunate that the tabloids try to portray it as something that is current,” Perez explained.
She added, “I’ve moved on, and I’m sure she has also. We’re grown women. And it’s really disgusting to me that the media tried to pit two Latinas against each other. It’s just so difficult, and so hard, to make it in this industry, especially if you’re a person of color. And for them to do that was really shameful.”
The San Francisco Chronicle explains that the feud with Jennifer Lopez recently came back into the limelight following the release Perez’s memoir Handbook for an Unpredictable Life: How I Survived Sister Renata and My Crazy Mother, and Still Came Out Smiling (with Great Hair). Rosie insists that the comments she made about J-Lo were completely taken out of context.
Apparently Perez and Lopez had a bit of a spat during their days as back-up dancers on the 90s sketch comedy show In Living Color. After Rosie helped Jennifer land a gig on the aforementioned TV program, Lopez turned into “some ghetto b****” and started causing trouble. When she confronted Jennifer about her attitude, things apparently came to a head.
“You pick on me, me and only me, every f***ing day! Every f***ing day! I work my a** off, deliver and you keep pushing me aside, treating me like s***! I know I’m good! I’m better than any of these girls, and you know it,” Lopez reportedly exclaimed.
Although the pair may have had their problems back in the day, Rosie Perez insists she isn’t holding a grudge against Jennifer Lopez. She said, “I have no malice against her. The first time I saw her I told her I thought she was wonderful and I am really happy for her success.”
