Ariana Grande Admits To Using Her Hair As A Mask

Ariana Grande admits that she occasionally uses her hair as a shield.

Although she’s the star of the hit Nickelodeon show Sam & Cat and has released a very popular album, this doesn’t mean Grande is completely comfortable with the attention she receives from the public.

During her recent chat with V magazine, Ariana admitted that she often uses her hair as a shield. When dealing with fans, photographers, and complete strangers becomes too much, at least she has a full head of hair to hide behind.

“I use my hair as a mask, as a shield. I hide behind it and it’s what keeps me me. Some people make fun of me for it, but I don’t know who those some people are, so I don’t care,” Ariana Grande recently explained to the publication.

Of course, Grande’s hair has caused her fair amount of trouble in recent weeks. Not only have fans picked on the singer for her decision to get a weave, she also received some harsh criticism from celebrity blogger Perez Hilton when she appeared on the red carpet at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

According to Ariana, the dye jobs she received as part of her role on Sam & Cat ultimately destroyed her hair. As a result, she was forced to employ wigs and eventually a weave to help cover the damage. At one point, she claimed to wear more fake hair than a drag queen.

When the internet ridicule reached its boiling point, Ariana Grande kindly asked folks to back off for a while. The singer practically begged for mercy in a post on Instagram earlier this year.

Ariana wrote:

“So as annoying as it is for y’all to have to look at the same hair style all the time, it’s all that works for now. And trust me, it’s even more difficult for me to have to wait forever for my natural hair to grow back and to have to wear more fake hair than every drag queen on earth combined. So please give me a break about the hair (or just don’t look at me). It’s just hair after all. There are way way way more important things.”

Since Grande knows a thing or two about getting ridiculed and mocked online, she came to troubled pop star Justin Bieber’s defense earlier this year. In her opinion, everyone should leave the guy alone while he’s trying to get his life back in order.

“I think it’s really serious. I’ve seen tweets of people making fun of the mug shot and all this stuff, and it’s so ignorant. It’s gotten to a point where I just want him to be okay. It’s this very serious thing. And it’s not just like a kid who’s, you know, screwing around. It’s dangerous. It’s very serious and upsetting,” she said during an interview last month.

The singer added, “I don’t think it’s something to make fun of anymore. I don’t think it’s funny anymore… He’s a great person and a very talented boy and I want the best for him. He’s the most visible and yet isolated human being I’ve ever met.”
