Cristiano Ronaldo Returns To Play On Wednesday Against Schalke

Cristiano Ronaldo will return to the soccer field on Wednesday against Schalke, after serving a controversial three-match suspension for getting in Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Iturraspe’s face and making a dismissive gesture at the ref.

But many thought it was much about nothing and Spanish soccer authorities were out to make an example of the Portuguese superstar, even denying the appeal Real Madrid put forth in an attempt to shorten the ban.

However, now that the match against Elche is in the history books — Cristiano Ronaldo’s last on the bench — the striker and “los blancos” are more than ready to see him back in action this coming Wednesday.

In his absence Real has done pretty well and even broke off from the three way tie they had been stuck in for the last few weeks, sharing first place with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

A combination of Real Madrid’s 3-0 convincing victory against Elche and Barcelona’s shocking loss — also convincingly — at the hands of Real Sociedad, allowed Real Madrid to own the top spot in La Liga.

With the return of Cristiano Ronaldo this week, manager Carlo Ancelotti hopes to consolidate the team’s position and continue the excellent level of play his men have shown during their big star’s absence. Not an easy thing to do for any team.

But Real Madrid has proven that they are not only about Ronaldo and have the depth and talent to function without the 29-year-old sensation.

Cristiano Ronaldo is rested and unhappy with having to sit out three games, so fans are hoping to see him invigorated and able to continue to dominate La Liga.

Since coming to Real Madrid, Ronaldo has improved every year and was recently awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or as the best player in the sport.

In the Copa del Rey match against Atletico Madrid — which was not part of the suspension — Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals. He is still the top scorer in La Liga, with 22 goals, despite missing the three games.

There is no question that Cristiano Ronaldo is not only a talented player, but one of the main attractions La Liga has to offer, and even though Real Madrid has done very well without him, the fans are ready for CR7 to return to the field during the last stages of the regular season.
