Kindergarten Teacher May Lose Job After Discovering Five-Year-Olds ‘Having Sex’

A long-time New Jersey kindergarten teacher may get fired after she discovered a five-year-old boy and girl naked in the in-class bathroom who claimed they were “having sex.”

Mullica Township, N.J., officials suspended the teacher, Kelly Mascio, shortly after the September 30 incident, and the superintendent is apparently now moving to terminate her employment.

Mascio, 43, immediately reported the incident to her principal who contacted police and the Department of Youth and Family Services. A police investigation resulted in no charges being filed. Reportedly the teacher was suspended “for supposedly failing to supervise the students.”

According to the police report, “Kelly Mascio caught/observed two five-year-old students in the bathroom in the rear of the classroom. Both of the students were naked and made a statement that they were having sex.”

Last Wednesday, the local school board met in a closed session to consider the teacher’s removal, and about 200 people from the community showed up to support the teacher. Even if she winds up getting terminated, there are various procedural hurdles required under state law before any disciplinary action would be considered final.

A teachers’ union official said that “Our main concern is that the administration has completely forgone all traditional disciplinary avenues available in handling the incident.The administration has selected a disciplinary route that has resulted in enormous emotional and professional turmoil, and has strained the confidence and trust of school staff, parents and community members.”

The official added that Mascio “acted in a professional manner and responsibly reported the incident.”

Among other things, the school superintendent declared that “public reporting of this matter is neither complete nor accurate” but did not provide any other details presumably given rules governing confidentiality.

There are obviously facts that are unknown to the public at this time, but the teacher’s prompt reporting of the incident would seem to be a mitigating circumstance.

Society in general has become quite decadent, and it seems there is one school sex scandal after another. That being said, do you think these five-year-olds were really having sex in a kindergarten bathroom?
