Kanye West Teaming Up With Author Bret Easton Ellis For Film Project

Kanye West is teaming up with Bret Easton Ellis for a new film project.

The rapper is obviously a fan of the author’s work; West used a clip from director Mary Harron’s adaptation of his novel American Psycho to promote his latest album. Now Kanye wants to collaborate with Ellis on a new film project.

According to the folks at Time, the author briefly discussed the Kanye West project during a recent interview. However, it’s a little unclear what the pair are cooking up at the moment. Given Ellis and West’s track record, expect something completely outrageous.

“It’s in Kanye Land, and that’s subject to a whole other time frame. He came and asked me to write the film. I didn’t want to at first,” Ellis explained to Vice.

He added, “Then I listened to ‘Yeezus.’ It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He’d given me an advance copy, and I thought, regardless of whether I’m right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So f*** it, I said yes. And that’s how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We’ll see what happens.”

Ellis also told the publication that people often get the wrong impression about Kanye West because of the way he acts in the press. Although he often comes across a bit artsy and odd in interviews, the author said talking to the guy one-on-one is rather “mind-blowing.”

“We all are [narcissists]. We’re all here. And he’s one of the few people who will admit it, and I like him for that and I wish more people would follow suit,” Ellis added.

While the writer confirmed that he’s working on a script for the rapper, it’s unknown how involved West will be with the project. Since Kanye has dabbled in acting with Anchorman 2 and The Love Guru, there’s a chance he could take the lead in the flick.

There’s also a possibility that West could direct the project once Ellis is completely finished spinning the words together. Of course, this is all speculation on our part. Kanye could always hand the movie off to someone else when the times comes.

The Inquisitr previously reported that Kanye West is teaming up with fellow Chicago rapper Chief Keef for a few tracks. Some of these tunes will end up on Keef’s second studio album Bang 3, which is presently scheduled for release on March 3.
