Lil Wayne Admits That Teachers Shouldn’t Use His Songs In The Classroom

Even Lil Wayne thinks using his lyrics in the classroom is a bad idea.

A teacher in Florida was recently suspended after she assigned homework centered around the rapper’s tune “Six Foot, Seven Foot.” Since parents weren’t exactly thrilled about the subject matter, the folks at the Charter Schools of Boynton Beach were ultimately forced to take action.

“They shouldn’t be teaching this stuff in school for language arts. I mean, who in their right mind would give kids something like this?” one parent wanted to know.

One person who seems to agree with the outrage surrounding the teacher’s homework assignment is Lil Wayne. During a recent chat with the folks at ESPN, the rapper said he was a little shocked when he heard about the situation.

“I’d never be embarrassed by anything I say because I say it and I mean it. But I don’t think that kids — I mean, I don’t think that you should be trying to teach it any way to kids because I don’t record it and say it for kids to listen to it, but they will hear it,” Weezy said during the interview.

Lil Wayne continued:

“But it’s a difference between hearing and listening. You know? So, not that it’s okay for them to hear it, but if they hear it then so be it. They hear it. But when you trying to teach them to listen to it that’s a difference and I don’t try to teach them that. I just—I do what I do. And I don’t think that would be right for you to try and teach kids what I’m saying.

The Charter Schools of Boynton Beach headmaster Wayne Owens said that the teacher who put together the Lil Wayne homework assignment previously introduced students to Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe. Since some of the kids were having trouble learning about literary devices, the instructor decided to try a different approach.

“Students were having difficulty grasping the concepts of literary devices such as: pun, simile, metaphor, so the teacher used colloquial material. This material did not meet the school’s standards and was not approved. The teacher recognizes that it was totally inappropriate for a school assignment,” Owens explained.

Students interested in a little extra credit may have a new project looming on the horizon. According to a recent tweet from Drake, Lil Wayne is preparing to unleash Tha Carter V later this year.
