Bob Costas’ Eyes Have A Twitter Account Of Their Own

Bob Costas’ eyes have been making so many headlines that someone actually created a Twitter account for them and on Tuesay they found more material, following the announcement that the NBC host will miss out on his second night of Olympic coverage.

On Wednesday, the sportscaster announced in a phone interview on the Today show that he will be sidelined for a second consecutive night due to a stubborn eye infection that just won’t go away.

Today show’s co-host Matt Lauer will once again fill in from “the bullpen.”

This has become such a news topic that Bob Costas’ eyes have their own Twitter account — with a little over 2,000 followers so far — in which they poke fun at the veteran sports announcer’s misery.

Apparently both his eyes are tearing up a lot lately — either because of the infection or for having to sit out two nights in a row after 157 consecutive broadcasts — and the worse part is that he doesn’t even feel that bad.

Being in front of the camera doesn’t help, since millions of viewers are tuning in to watch the Sochi Olympics every night, NBC can’t really have a guy that has two red, watery eyes hosting the program.

“Actually, I don’t feel that bad, and the irony of it is, we’ve all felt worse than I feel right now and gone into work…. I’ve done lots of ballgames and events feeling much less than my best, but in this case it’s just involuntary. It’s an eye infection, and my eyes are so blurry and watery and become so light-sensitive that even in dim light they’re constantly tearing up.”

“I can’t possibly be in the studio, so it’s not a case of just saying, ‘What the heck, I’ll go in not feeling well.'”

So what is the Bob Costas’ eyes Twitter account tweeting about? Here are some of their hilarious tweets:

Undoubtedly, the Sochi Olympics will go down in history for many memorable accomplishments on the ice and snow, but they will also be synonym with the Games in which Bob Costas’ eyes made the news for all the wrong reasons. (To see more of the hilarious tweets go to @BobCostasEyes.)
