Jennifer Hudson On Weight Loss: ‘Do It For You’

Jennifer Hudson has finally opened up about her weight loss. While on American Idol Jennifer Hudson was known as the large singer with the bigger than life voice. Since then Hudson has gone on to bigger things, including her Oscar award winning role in Dream Girls. From that moment on Hudson has took control of her life, and that includes losing a whopping 80 pounds.

We all know that the media finds weight loss as their go-to topic to focus in on in terms of building someone up or breaking someone down. In terms of celebrity news, people like Kirstie Alley, Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson, and even Jennifer Hudson are targeted due to their fluctuating weight.

While Hudson has had to deal with a myriad of opinions from the media, from being called too thin, to too heavy, the Dream Girls actress seems to be confident in her image and weight loss. The actress, who also just so happens to be a spokesperson for Weight Watchers, told People that it’s less about the media blitz surrounding her weight loss and more about an inner perception.

Hudson is honest and surprisingly very candid about the decision concerning her weight loss:

“The key about losing weight: You have to do it for you. It’s about you. You have to want to do it. And you can’t let what everyone has to say overshadow what you want for you.”

Jennifer Hudson’s weight loss happened naturally as opposed to popular surgeries like gastric bypass and lap-band. Hudson lost a reported 80 pounds by following a portion controlled diet through Weight Watchers. Hudson also contributed her weight loss to cardio work out, which she took on six days a week for an hour, including resistance training. By getting to her goal she has been able to retain her weight loss by sticking to the Weight Watchers plan she started.

Opening up about her Weight Watchers plan, Hudson said:

“[My diet secret is] tracking my points – sticking with the plan with Weight Watchers. That’s what I try to do and take it with me everywhere I go.”

The important thing to recognize here when considering Hudson’s weight loss is that she didn’t rush into working out. She started off slowly by walking 30 minutes a day, and then gradually worked her way up to longer workouts. These days Jennifer is pretty happy with the way she looks.

“I’m still finding my niche with it and having fun with it. I’m like, ‘I like this short thing.’ I’m just embracing it.”

Currently Jennifer Hudson has a book out about her weight loss in a memoir titled “I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down.”
