Ruler on Ice Wins Belmont Stakes In Long Shot Bid For Title

It wasn’t suppose to happen, in fact it was a 24-1 long shot that it ever would but Ruler on Ice managed to pull off a huge upset on Saturday at the Belmont Stakes.

Ruler managed to pull off the three-quarter length win after Shackleford slowed into the home turn and tired in the muck as Rule on Ice and Stay Thirsty passed the Preakness winner.

The match was being touted as a showdown between Shackleform and Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom who never managed to move past the sixth position.

Ruler on Ice jockey Jose Valdivia Jr. was riding in his first ever Belmont and after the race he said:

“I’m a couple of yards from the wire and I’m thinking, `Oh my god, oh my god, I’m going to win the Belmont.”

Congratulations to anyone who bet on Ruler on Ice
