Imagine Dragons Join Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry And Dave Grohl For Grammy Salute To The Beatles

Imagine Dragons are on a roll. A year ago, it’s a good bet no one had ever heard of the Vegas bar band. Fast forward a year later and, surreal as it might sound, they’re sharing the stage with such music heavyweights as Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams and Dave Grohl for a Grammy Salute to the Beatles, arguably greatest band in rock history. Oh, and did we mention Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were also on hand to share in the festivities as well?

Dubbed, The Night that Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles, the special that aired February 9th on CBS paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ first performance in the U.S. And according to MTV.com, Imagine Dragons held their own during their Beatles performance:

“A year ago Imagine Dragons would have been lucky to snag a ticket to Sunday’s show,” the review pointed out. “But now the “Radioactive” rockers are chart-toppers and they proved they belonged on the broadcast with a folky, acoustic ramble through Revolution that gave the classic song new life.”

It’s been quite the year for Imagine Dragons who recently began their first ever Arena Rock tour in support of their debut album Night Visions. This coming off their much hyped Grammy Awards performances with rapper Kendrick Lamar that catapulted their stardom into the stratosphere – enough to warrant an invite to perform alongside the Beatles and company.

According to Rolling Stone, Reynolds and his band mates found the company surrounding them on stage a bit intimidating during their performance of Revolution, until former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr gave them his official approval.

“He said he was a fan and had our album, and gave me a kiss on my cheek,” he told the acclaimed music magazine. “I will never wash my cheek again, probably.”

Aside from the Imagine Dragons performance of Revolution, the show was filled with many standout performances. Pharrell Williams and his now infamous Grammy Awards hat performed a straight forward rendition of the classic Beatles tune Here Comes The Sun. Williams has also seen a surge in popularity post Grammy Awards that can be attributed to winning three Grammy Awards and being nominated for an Oscar for his original song Happy.

Katy Perry meanwhile, belted out the Paul McCartney penned Beatles hit song Yesterday while Foo Fighters front man, and recent McCartney collaborator, Dave Grohl returned to jam out the song Hey Bulldog with the former Beatles members.
