‘Lisa Is A Slut’ Appears On Woman’s Bank Of America Credit Card Offer
Self-described feminist Lisa McIntire received a credit card offer from Bank of America addressed to “Lisa Is A Slut” McIntire.
The offensive junk mail actually was mailed to the home of McIntire’s mom, who texted her daughter about the interesting piece of correspondence.
The credit card offer was apparently a joint marketing venture between Bank of America and the Golden Key International Honour Society, a group in which McIntire holds a membership.
McIntire tweeted out pictures of the correspondence which attracted a lot social media attention, and both organizations have since apologized on Twitter as well as in a personal phone call to her.
Said the California-based McIntire about the whole Lisa is a Slut thing: “What kind of got my adrenaline pumping is that I’m a feminist writer on the Internet, so getting a piece of mail that my mom is opening that says I’m a ‘slut’ made me think, ‘Oh god, which troll of mine is doing this?’ But I don’t think that’s what happened here… My working theory is that this is some data entry person [messing] around. I don’t think it’s aimed at me.”
Golden Key reportedly told McIntire that someone “Is a Slut” had been inserted into her middle name field in the membership records sometime in the 2004-2008 time period and that the organization is still investigating as to how this happened. Forbes theorized that “Maybe junk mail senders have simply figured out that putting something offensive and shocking on a mailing is the best way to stop someone from just automatically throwing it out.”
McIntire joked on Twitter that “So it’s possible that I’ve been sluttin’ it up in a honor society’s database for almost 10 years.”
