San Antonio Coach Resigns After Allegedly Exchanging Inappropriate Texts With Student

A San Antonio coach at South San High School has resigned amid allegations he exchanged inappropriate text messages with a student. The coach was reportedly placed on leave Tuesday for the allegations and then resigned Wednesday.

The school district hasn’t released the coach’s name as of yet, and no charges have been filed against him. According to San Antonio Express, South San Antonio Independent School District spokesman Ed Suarez said officials reviewed the text messages on the coach’s phone, deemed them inappropriate, and “immediately placed him on leave.”

This, of course, isn’t the first time a teacher is accused of acting inappropriately around or with a student. Although this South San High School coach hasn’t been charged with anything, The Inquisitr recently covered the confrontation between a young woman named Jamie Carrillo and her former teacher who allegedly molested Ms. Carrillo as a child.

The teacher, Andrea Cardosa, has been charged with 16 felony counts of sexually abusing a child after Carrillo recorded a phone call with Cardosa where the teacher supposedly admitted her wrongdoing.

Jamie Carrillo, 28, had taken years to build up the courage to talk to authorities about the alleged abuse against her when she was only 12 years old. Sadly, the victim was under the impression that it was too late for charges to be filed due to the statute of limitations. This thought was devastating for Carrillo, so she decided to address Cardosa directly.

“I decided to call her and make a video to let the public know what kind of person is around their children. Her name is Andrea Cardosa and works with your children,” said Carrillo according to The Inquisitr. The video of the conversation was then posted to YouTube and has since gained police and national attention.

The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office contends there is no statute of Limitations on the most serious charge of aggravated sexual assault on a child under 14, and the DA decided to prosecute Cardosa. Since the case has gone public, another former student, now 18 and wishing to remain unnamed, has come forward.

Randy Collins, Cardosa’s attorney, says that the former teacher is denying the charges against her and he is “certain that evidence will shed new light” on the allegation. He continued, “Our justice system requires more than a YouTube video to determine the facts of a case.”

Cardosa is being held on $5 million bond according to The Inquisitr, and if convicted of her crimes, she could be facing life in prison.

In the case of the San Antonio coach who allegedly sent inappropriate text messages to a student, he has yet to be charged with any wrong doings. According to KHOU, the school district has brought up the allegations with the State Board of Educator Certification, which will “red flag” the coach if he applies for future teaching jobs.

According to Fox 29, this isn’t the first issue to arise at the South San High School. Six months ago, a computer teacher was reportedly under investigation for child pornography. That teacher also resigned. Another San Antonio teacher was reportedly put on leave and later reassigned in October after allegations about the teacher’s conduct toward a student couldn’t be substantiated according to Suarez.
