Kansas City market led the country in Super Bowl TV ratings

Yesterday’s blow out Super Bowl game between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos had Kansas City TV viewers riveted to their TV sets. According to
FOX Sports, the big game had a whopping 58.1/78 market share in Kansas City alone. That is very impressive considering Kansas City fans did not have a team in the game. Kansas City put up higher viewer numbers than Seattle, which had a 56.7 market share.

Super Bowl XLVIII was certainly a surprise in the way the final score turned out. The game was hyped as a great match up between the highest scoring offensive going up against the toughest defense in the NFL. The anticipation of watching a such a fantastic match up is probably what made this the fifth most watched Super Bowl in history.

Denver was the heavy favorite going into the game and all eyes were especially on star quarterback Peyton Manning. Anticipation was high that Manning would take charge of the field with a dominating passing game. Unfortunately, that did not happen. From the very first play, the Broncos were not the same team they had been all season. There is talk that football players are superstitious. Maybe that early score by Seattle on a mishandled snap by Denver got into the heads of Denver players.

By the end of the first half of the game, the Broncos had nothing to show for their efforts on the field. The score was a disheartening 22-0 in favor of Seattle. It is understandable that fans in Denver may have switched the TV to something less depressing. Maybe they were watching a rerun of the popular puppy bowl. The puppies were providing a lot more real on field excitement for viewers than their human counterparts.

Seattle fans were certainly enjoying every single minute of this football massacre by the looks of the ratings. Who can blame them? This is Seattle’s first Super Bowl win. Seattle fans could treasure every fumble, every missed pass and every touch down.

Let the sports analysts pick over what went wrong and right for both teams. All that matters was that the game was a standout in more ways than just the score or ratings. The weather in New York and New Jersey was better than it was in Denver. Russell Wilson became the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl. And, it is quite certain that Seattle and Kansas City fans found this game to be one for the ages, the TV ratings reveal their shared passion for the game.
