Happy 36th Birthday To Kerry Washington
Television’s favorite Washington vixen is celebrating her birthday! That’s right Kerry Washington, the actress who plays the one and only Olivia Pope on ABC’s Scandal is 36 today.
Kerry Washington sure is one lucky lady. At 36-years-old the actress finds herself coming off of a hugely successful year. As Netflix picked up Scandal, ratings have risen for the ABC drama, allowing fans to catch up on episodes they missed and join the growing viewership. In addition to the huge success Scandal has garnered with their third season, Washington has had a magical year too.
The actress has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal. In addition Washington was also nominated for a 2013 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and a 2014 Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.
Although she only walked away with nominations, this has been a rewarding year for Kerry Washington. Her November 3 episode on Saturday Night Live hit an all time high in the ratings. At the time it was rated as the highest spike in ratings since Justin Timberlake’s hosting episode on March 9. This of course inspired Kenan Thompson’s comment about the lack of diversity on SNL, which lead to the recent casting of Sasheer Zamata.
As far as Washington’s successful year is concerned, her SNL ratings high wasn’t the only thing to be grateful for. After weeks of speculation, Washington confirmed that she was pregnant back in October 2013. It was a shock to many as she had just surprised everyone by marrying her mystery boyfriend and NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha back in June.
The Django Unchained actress seems to be very level headed when it comes to putting her private life on display to the public. While she couldn’t resist showing off her growing baby bump on the red carpet at the SAGs this year, back in September Washington told Glamour magazine about what she learned early on in the business when it comes to over sharing.
“I’ve had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it. But I couldn’t just turn around and say, ‘I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.’ So I just thought, ‘Okay, no more.'”
Although she’s private with her life, Kerry is still engaged with her fans. The birthday girl and mother to be took to Twitter to express how nice all the birthday love was.
