Vanessa Hudgens snacked on a sandwich she pulled out of the trash while filming director Ron Krauss’ gritty drama Gimme Shelter.
When it comes to committing to a role, Hudgens apparently doesn’t mess around. The Spring Breakers star reportedly dined on a sandwich she pulled out of the garbage while portraying Agnes “Apple” Bailey in the upcoming motion picture. However, she wasn’t exactly thrilled with the experience.
“Eating out of the garbage was horrible as well because there was a paparazzi there that day so pictures are out of ‘Vanessa eating out of the trash,’ and I’m like, ‘No, it’s Apple,'” Vanessa Hudgens explained during a recent interview.
The scene apparently required Hudgens to hungrily consume a peanut butter and jelly sandwich she pulled out of a trash receptacle. Although digging through the garbage for a bite to eat might sound a little gross, Vanessa said the sandwich in question was relatively clean when she ate it.
“It was great! I made sure it was going to be safe and clean when I got to it, but it was still uncomfortable. It’s a very real moment I think too for the character ’cause that’s something that really does happen when you’re homeless. It’s such a low point for anyone. It just doesn’t feel good,” she added.
Gimme Shelter apparently forced Vanessa Hudgens to partake in a number of questionable pastimes. At one point during the drama, her character steals a car while its owner protests from the street. The actress said filming this sequence resulted in a mild panic attack.
“The stealing the car was really traumatic for me for some reason because the guy who tells me to get in the car, his name was Jeff, was kind of my bodyguard, he was looking out for me the whole time,” Hudgens explained.
She continued, “They wanted me to drive the car really close to him and he bangs on it and yells at me, and it was so much to take all at the same time that I just had a panic attack and I kind of lost it for a second because it was really overwhelming.”
In addition to Vanessa Hudgens, Gimme Shelter stars Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser, James Earl Jones, Ann Dowd, and Dascha Polanco. The film opens in select theaters across the US on January 24.
