Texas Representative Louie Gohmert Urges Tea Party To Stand Up To GOP Vanguard

Texas Representative Louie Gohmert stated during a South Carolina convention on Sunday that the Tea Party should push back against the old GOP guard and not just “lay around when our liberty, lives, and loves are on the line.” The Lone Star State lawmaker. During the political gathering the lawmaker also state that the White House under President Barack Obama’s administration it “out of control.” Gohmert is a vocal opponent to both the president and Obamacare.

Representative Gohmert has also taken issue with a federal program known as The Ready Reserve Corps. The group was created under the Affordable Care Act and will reportedly have the authority to respond to “emergency response missions” in America. Representative Gohmert has raised concerns about the trainees working under the guidance of the Department of Homeland Security – DHS. Representative Gohmert believes that until Congress takes the DHS program more seriously and demands answers, that the Ready Reserve Corps will continue to operate shrouded in secrecy. Gohmert is the Vice-Chair on the Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security Committee.

Affordable Care Act Section 5210 established both a Regular Corps and a Ready Reserve Corps. The members of the corps must be confirmed by the Senate after being appointed by the president, according to a synopsis of the law published by the Examiner. The noted goal of the corps is to enlist additional manpower to respond to “routine public health and emergency response missions.” Approximately $17.5 million was appropriated for the Ready Reserve Corps from 2010 to 2014.

The Texas lawmaker had this to say about the DHS Ready Reserve Corps:

“I want to know are they using weapons to train, or are they being taught to use syringes and health care items? Some kind of secret security force is something the United States is never supposed to have …. but until we get enough members of Congress stirred up over the things I’ve been preaching about then we’re not likely to get answers.”

Representative Gohmert also noted that he feels the only way to get DHS to respond to the questions posed is to start cutting the federal agency’s funding. The Congressman believes that the DHS has been “wasting money right and left.” He noted the inability to secure the nation’s border as major Department of Homeland Security failure.

According to text included in Obamacare shared by Representative Gohmert, the Ready Reserve Corps was developed to respond to “international health crises” but nowhere in the wording does the work “health” appear in reference to duties, tasks, or training. A segment of the Janet Mefferd Show about the DHS Ready Reserve Corps noted that the federal agency announced a requirement for “armed protective security” in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Approximately $19 million was spent on the initiative, according to an Off The Grid News report. The Department of Homeland Security notice also listed a requirement stating that those involved with the project must have a “top level security clearance by the start of performance,” according to Mefferd’s report.

In a speech uttered on July 2, 2008 in Colorado Springs, Barack Obama (still a presidential candidate at the time) made a statement supporting the creation of a “civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as our military force. Factcheck.org contends that Obama’s statements were merely misunderstand and taken out of context.

An excerpt from the Affordable Care Act pertaining to the Ready Reserve Corps reads:

COMMISSIONED CORPS AND READY RESERVE CORPS. ”(a) ESTABLISHMENT.— ”(1) IN GENERAL.—There shall be in the Service a commissioned Regular Corps and a Ready Reserve Corps for service in time of national emergency. APPOINTMENT. – Commissioned officers of the Ready Reserve Corps shall be appointed by the President and commissioned officers of the Regular Corps shall be appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate.”
