Denver Broncos Fan Punched And Stomped During Rally [Video]

A Denver Broncos fan was beaten and stomped during a post-game rally last Sunday night in San Diego.

The violent incident, which was captured on cell phone video (see embeds above and below), occurred in the National City area after the Broncos defeated the Chargers 24-17 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver in an NFL divisional playoff. Apparently Chargers fans were celebrating the season as a whole rather than the team’s disappointing ouster from post-season competition.

Police on the scene arrested three Chargers fans and one Bronco fan in the altercation. The incident is under investigation as to who instigated it.

The Broncos host the New England Patriots today in the AFC Championship game for the right to go to the Super Bowl.

There either are an escalating number of violent incidents at football games or we are hearing about it more often when emotions between rival fans run high and harmless banter gets taken to a menacing level. Fan-on-fan violence has broken out in other sports leagues and at the college level as well. You may remember the Alabama mom who dove head-first into a row of Oklahoma Sooners fans at the Sugar Bowl. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the woman has since apologized.

The Big Lead provided this summary of what happened to the Broncos fan in San Diego: “Broncos fans were jubilant after surviving the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Divisional round on Sunday. Chargers fans were less pleased. So when a lone, Peyton Manning jersey-wearing Broncos fan got a bit too wild in front of opposing fans, he found some people more than willing to engage in a street fight. According to the video uploader of this video, this Broncos fan ‘decided to run through the charger fans in San Diego national city like a dumbass.’ Enter street justice. The Chargers fans got the Broncos fan to the ground and kicked and punched him until police jumped in.”

As The Inqusitr previously reported, there was a stabbing incident outside Sports Authority Field during Denver’s regular season loss to the Chargers that evidently may have been gang-related rather than rivalry related, however.

Setting aside these specific incidents, in general there may be some common elements to the altercations that usually occur in or in the immediate vicinity of the stadiums: beer muscles-induced trash talking, passionate fans referring to their favorite team as “we” rather than “they,” and grown men or women wearing team jerseys with the names of other grown men on the back.

Even if ill-advised or peculiar as the case may be, people should be able wear any kind of T-shirt they want want even in “hostile territory” without being physically attacked. That being said, as much as following sports can be fun and entertaining, is it really a good idea to have your personal identity consumed by which professional sports team you root for?
