‘Batman Vs. Superman’ Delayed 10-Months, Ben Affleck Reportedly Injures Ribs

Batman vs. Superman has been pushed back from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016, Warner Bros. Studios announced on Friday.

The original rumor — reported by Batman-News.com — was that Ben Affleck injured his leg, but it was later revealed that he actually hurt his ribs while skiing during the holidays.

Following the incident, production of the film will be postponed 10-months and not until next month like it was previously announced, Chris Begley reports late Friday night.

Batman vs. Superman — which still doesn’t have an official name — was scheduled to start production in February, in Michigan.

Part of the official statement from Warner Bros. said the extra time will give the filmmakers:

“…time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year.”

So basically, everything is up in the air at this moment. For Superman fans, 2015 was the year in which their hero would face-off against the Caped Crusader for the first time in live film.

After director Zack Snyder announced that the sequel to Man Of Steel would include Batman, speculation as to who would play the dark knight started.

When Ben Affleck was officially named the next Batman, he was not well received by fans, and now that he seems to be at the center of the delay, it is likely he will be even less popular (just take a look at Twitter comments so far.)

Cinemablend says of a possible face-off between Warner Bros. and Marvel Studios:

“In June of last year the competing comic book studio planted their flag in not only May 6, 2016, but also July 18, 2016, and May 5, 2017. It’s a bold move on Warner Bros. part and possibly an introduction to a game of chicken between the studios, but it’s also possible that there are dealings going on behind the scenes that suggest Marvel is already looking at a different release date for their first 2016 film.”

One also has to consider all the other rumors swirling around the filming of Batman vs. Superman. As reported by The Inquisitr there is talk that the film and Justice League would be filmed back-to-back, a la The Hobbit.

This would allow the studio to retain the very high profile cast, including Ben Affleck, who is also a director, the very hot Henry Cavill, and recent Golden Globe winner Amy Adams.

If the rumors that both films would be shot consecutively, the studio could be in need of more time to develop the story so it ties nicely with a much talked about and awaited Justice League. Some are already discounting the possibility.

The latest talk is that the ending of Batman vs. Superman will be a massive cliffhanger that would set up the plot line for Justice League and the casting of Gal Galdot as Wonder Woman coupled with the rumors of other superheroes being part of the movie could support this theory.
