Hangover 2 Rules The Memorial Weekend Box Office, Kung Fu Panda Follows


Even with awful reviews The Hangover II easily ruled the box office weekend taking in $86.5 million according to the films production company Warner Bros.

The movie opened on Thursday with an opening day take of $31.6 million, a new opening day record for an R-rated comedy. The movie also managed an impressive $30 million on Friday.

Also opening with a solid take was the animated film Kung Fu Panda Fu which took in $48 million while featuring the voices of Jack Black and Angelina Jolie. The animated flick was well received at this years Cannes Films Festival. While still an impressive opening the movie earned $12.2 million less than the original which was released in 2008.

When all was said and done the movie business earned $270 million over the weekend, handily defeating the former Memorial Day record of $254.6 million set in 2007.
