Lauren Tannehill: Wife Of Dolphins Quarterback Leaves $2,000 Assault Rifle In Rental Car

Lauren Tannehill left a big surprise for an unexpecting mom — a giant assault rifle.

The wife of Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannhill had rented a car in South Florida but happened to forget a bag on the backseat. The Nissan Rogue was then returned and rented out to a New York mom taking a vacation, who opened the bag to find an AR-15 semiautomatic.

The mom was freaked out, and called E-Z Rent-A-Car before driving to the nearest police station.

“We got out of the car, we were kind of freaked out,” driver Judith Fleissig recalled. “I didn’t want to touch it.”

Sports fans known Lauren Tannehill as the model wife of the Dolphins quarterback. She played a role on the HBO reality series Hard Knocks this summer, and in her spare time is a big gun enthusiast. She has posted a number of pictures on Instagram showing her taking her rifles and handguns out to the shooting range.

Ryan, who grew up in Texas, is a shooter himself and has talked often about his passion for hunting.

Ryan and Lauren Tannehill had already noticed that the rifle was missing, and called the rental company to report a missing item, though they didn’t mention that it was an AR-15.

The AR-15 is a serious rifle, the civilian version of the military’s M-16. Experts say it can hold up to 30 rounds of ammunition, firing one at a time, but upgrades can allow it to hold as many as 100.

Justin Lampert, the owner of a gun store and gun range in South Florida, noted that the rifle is not practical as a self-defense tool, and instead is owned mostly by gun collectors, gun-range enthusiasts and some hunters.

Poilce said after determining that the gun was legally owned, they would not be pressing any charges against Lauren Tannehill or her husband.
