Vatican Bank Scandal Has Pope Francis Cleaning House Like Jesus

The recent Vatican bank scandal has Pope Francis cleaning house and replacing cardinals in the Catholic capital.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, we already know that Pope Francis is pretty cool as Popes go, as seen when he sold his Harley for charity.

Now, some are likening Pope Francis to the Big J himself, by comparing his actions to the story in Matthew 21:12 of the Bible where Jesus threw the moneychangers out of Herod’s temple in Jerusalem. So what is Pope Francis’ version of “The Cleansing of the Temple” actually doing at the Vatican bank? Let’s break it down.

In February 2013, Pope Benedict XVI decided to keep the bank’s supervisory body on for another five years. The move came directly on the heels of the announcement of his resignation. A massive international scandal in the July previous to Pope Benedict’s resignation saw (among many other things) the removal of two top managers and the arrest of “Monsignor 500,” who allegedly plotted to smuggle 20 millions Church euros from the Vatican bank to Switzerland.

Enter Pope Francis, dealing with the aftermath of one whopper of a scandal. The new Pope, along with shaking up the Catholic world on the entire range of it’s religious views, now seems to be intent on a thorough changing of the accounting guard with the latest changes. All but one of the previous members of the Vatican banking commission have now been replaced.

Predictably, the Pope chose the “devil-he-knows” with Cardinal-elect Pietro Parolin as his secretary of state, and close friend Cardinal Santos Abril y Castello. Other new members include Christoph Schoenborn, archbishop of Vienna, and Cardinal Thomas Collins, archbishop of Toronto. He also appointed another friend, Monsignor Battista Ricca in a supervisory position in the bank and created a commission separate from the bank to oversee the bank’s activities.

So what do you think of Pope Francis’ move to “clean house” at the Vatican bank? Is he really trying to change the system or just replacing all the previous cardinals with his cronies?
