Jim Carrey Vs. Shia LaBeouf: Jenny McCarthy Defends Her Ex-Boyfriend

Jim Carrey inspired Transformers star Shia LaBeouf to come out of retirement to respond to a joke made during this year’s Golden Globes ceremony.

Carrey’s quip about LaBeouf’s plagiarism didn’t settle well with the extremely opinionated actor, prompting him to issue a series of strange and inaccurate tweets in retaliation. Once a slew of negative responses started pouring in on the micro-blogging site, LaBeouf decided to deleted the posts save for one.

“I am not famous anymore,” he boldly proclaimed.

Shia also made a peculiar remark about Jim Carrey not spending any time with his so-called “love child,” a comment that LaBeouf later apologized for making.

“Jim Carrey states that he is deeply involved in his daughter’s life — I accept that. Regret tweet on the matter. Apologies to both parents,” he wrote.

Since Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy spent a fair amount of time together during their relationship, she decided to address the situation on Tuesday’s edition of The View. The former Singled Out co-host took issue with LaBeouf’s decision to bring Jim Carrey’s daughter into the exchange.

“You can attack [me], but don’t bring my children into it. And I’m sure it’s the same for Jim. Jim and I have become friends now since our breakup. We dated for five years and I got to know his daughter, Jane, who is a lovely, lovely girl,” McCarthy explained.

She added, “It’s completely uncalled for and wrong. Jim is a great father. He loves Jane more than anything in the world. Shia did apologize and Jim did take it, but the whole thing is, do not bring our children into it.”

If you haven’t kept up with this year’s Golden Globes, then you’re probably a little curious about what Jim Carrey said to draw the ire of Shia LaBeouf. While presenting the award for best comedy or musical, the Ace Ventura star decided to have some fun at the guy’s expense.

“Dying is easy. Comedy is hard… I believe it was Shia LaBeouf who said that. So young, so wise,” Jim Carrey said. Laughter promptly ensued, though the former Even Stevens star clearly wasn’t impressed with the joke.

LaBeouf infamously plagiarized passages from a graphic novel to craft a recent short film. To make matters worse, the apology he issued shortly after the story came to light was also reportedly copied from another writer. Days later, Shia announced that he was retiring from public life. However, this apparently didn’t last for very long.
