Kiefer Sutherland Is ‘Terrified’ To Play Jack Bauer In ’24: Live Another Day’

Kiefer Sutherland returns as Jack Bauer in 24: Live Another Day May 5 on Fox, and it can’t come soon enough for fans of the miniseries.

The new spin-off premieres with a two-hour episode in which Bauer makes his comeback as the counter-terrorist hero that saves the world from evil doers on a regular basis.

The show will resume its one-hour episodes the following week, May 12.

Fox decided to revive the real-time drama with a 12-hour television event starting May 5.

In the original miniseries, 24, Kiefer Sutherland chased down the bad guys during a 24-hour period, which encompassed one episode.

But playing the tough guy, who usually saves the day, is not that easy and it has been a few years since Sutherland has become his alter ego, Jack Bauer, one of the most famous international anti-terrorism experts.

“I’m about as anxious and wound up as I’ve been in a long time,” Kiefer Sutherland said Monday at the Television Critics Association winter meeting.

The 47-year-old actor played Bauer from 2001 through 2010 in one of the most successful Fox miniseries.

“There’s a great impetus for all of us to create something new with the show,” Sutherland said during the meeting.

Kiefer Sutherland will be reunited with originals Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe O’Brian), Kim Raver (Audrey Raines), and William Devane (James Heller).

Of his fear of disappointing loyal fans of the series that are excited at the prospect of seeing their favorite hero again Kiefer Sutherland says:

“It was nine years I spent doing this (character). And I’m terrified going back to it. I used to be terrified between seasons, actually. Without patting ourselves on the back, we made eight seasons of great TV. To open it up again and possibly failing to make great TV, is frightening. Don’t want to disappoint a very loyal audience.”

24: Live Another Day — which sounds like a James Bond film — will be shot and set in London. It will keep the original format with split screens and interconnected stories.

The series picks up four-years after 24’s last episodes and follows Jack Bauer, who is now a fugitive of the law and is being chased by the CIA.

Of filming in his native London, Kiefer Sutherland says:

“Things will be blowing up — cars, double decker buses, things like that. I’m sure we’ll be hated by a large portion of London for snarling up their traffic here and there, and for that I apologize in advance.”
