Tatiana Maslany: Canadian Actress Turns Into Breakout Star On 'Orphan Black'

Tatiana Maslany has more than just a breakout role on the BBC America conspiracy drama Orphan Black. She has seven of them.

The 28-year-old Canadian actress plays seven different characters on the sleeper hit, which is building steam as it moves into its second season.

Though the show has gained a strong following, Tatiana Maslany has a chance for a major breakout at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, where she is up for Best Actress In A Television Drama.

Tatiana may be happy to see the show doing well, but said she doesn't care much if she gets personal acclaim.

"It's not my ambition. I don't do this for awards and the attention. I've been doing this since I was nine years old and getting awards was never part of it for me."

It would be considered a small upset if Tatiana were to take home the award. She has some stiff competition in Julianna Margulies of CBS's The Good Wife, Taylor Schilling of Netflix's Orange is the New Black, Robin Wright of Netflix's House of Cards, and Kerry Washington of ABC's Scandal.

But for Tatiana Maslany, the future is bright. After a hectic first season in which she played seven characters, Maslany said she was ready to start work on Season 2.

"It was daunting to come back to it because I knew what to expect and I knew how much work it was going to be," Maslany said. "At the same time, there was a sense of, 'OK, we've done this before'... and what was exciting about Season 2 is we flesh out the world of each of the clones."

Even Maslany admits she is a bit amazed to see such a far-out concept find such a large audience.

"We're a niche, odd little show that could have fallen under the radar," she said. "The Golden Globe thing is wild. I'm completely blown away by it and just trying to breathe and take it one day at a time because it is totally out of my league."

Tatiana Maslany can be seen in Orphan Black on BBC America when the show returns for Season 2 in April.
