Jennifer Lawrence Calls Christian Bale Fat, Still Manages To Be Charming

Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she disappointed that Christian Bale gained weight for his role in American Hustle because she was looking forward to kissing a svelte version of the actor.

The 23-year-old, who won 2013’s Best Actress Academy Award for her turn in Silver Linings Playbook, plays Bale’s wife in director David O Russell’s follow-up to the aforementioned romantic-drama.

Russell revealed that Lawrence told him during production, “I finally get to make out with Christian Bale and he’s a really fat guy.” She then charmingly added, “He’s Fatman, not Batman.”

However, despite his excess weight, Russell admitted that Bale was still a hit with the ladies, stating, “The shocking thing is that Christian can charm ladies even with the comb over and the belly because it comes from confidence and heart.”

Russell believes that this kind of transformation is what makes Bale one of the most coveted actors currently working in Hollywood.

He explained, “I want them to disappear, and that excites them because they want to freak audiences out. And that’s what entertainment is right? Having a character like, ‘Oh my God. I went into another world! Where was I?’ That’s what he did.”

However this ability isn’t just reserved for Bale. Russell admitted that Lawrence and her fellow co-stars Amy Adams and Bradley Cooper also managed to perform cinematic miracles in front of his camera too.

“That’s what Jennifer did,” he added. “Jennifer played a real housewife from Long Island. That’s what [Bradley] Cooper did. He played a Brooklyn FBI guy but a freak! And that’s what Amy Adams did when she played a split personality – sexier than anybody ever thought the little princess from Enchanted could be.”

Lawrence’s inimitable and quirky personality has turned her into one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses, but despite her popularity she’s admitted that she is trying to change her ways.

“There are so many things that I do and say which come out wrong because I don’t think before speaking,” she noted. “I can be quite rude and use some bad language. I am trying to clean up my act. But my mom always taught me that being natural was best. I make a fool of myself easier than anyone I know. I get so nervous before going down red carpets – particularly after that fall at the Oscars.”

However, Lawrence admits that her mother has told her not to be too hard on herself, and she’s passed on some sage advice to her daughter. “My mom taught me to laugh at myself,” she confirmed. “What else can I do? She is there to catch me, in every way. Nothing is ever said like, ‘Make sure you put one foot in front of the other’.”
