Oprah Says Goodbye: Credits God with Show’s Success

Oprah Winfrey ended her final show by saying,

“I won’t say goodbye, I’ll just say until we meet again. To God be the glory.”

She then walked through the audience and off the set of her show and like that it was over. During the show’s 25 years of airing, Oprah interviewed over 25,000 guests and raked in more than 40 Emmys in the process. To say that she was slightly influential would be the understatement of the year, in fact the power that she wielded over her followers was borderline scary at times.

“I’ve been watching Oprah since 5th grade, for the last 14 years,” said one local fan. “Fashion changed, music went in and out, but Oprah’s always been there. This show was my one-on-one time with her.”

During the course of the final show, Oprah made it a point to openly express that it was God and her staff that deserved the praise for the shows overall success.

“People often ask me what is the secret to the success of the show,” she said. “How have we lasted 25 years. I non-jokingly say, my team – and Jesus.”

Oprah’s beliefs have always been the talk of Christian circles and some devout believers openly question if she is truly a Christian at all.

Kathryn Lofton, a religious history professor at Yale University, believes that Oprah wants to be viewed as a woman who “translates and understands herself as a Christian but reflects modern attitude about religion and religious institutions.”

It was reasons as this that she was frequently criticized for. Critics claimed instead of promoting the God of the Bible she was actually indoctrinating her audience into a New Age spiritualism.

Winfrey directly addressed those who doubted her faith in the true God in her final show.

“Nothing but the hand of God has made this possible for me,” she said. “For all of you who get riled up when I mention God and you want to know which God I’m talking about, I’m talking about the same one you’re talking about. I’m talking about the Alpha and the Omega. The omniscient. The omnipresent. The ultimate consciousness. The source, the force, the all of everything there is. The one and only, G-O-D. That’s the one I’m talking’ about.”

Here is a short video clip of her saying “farewell”.
