If you’re LeBron James and you want something, apparently the King James bible concept of “ask and ye shall receive” holds true when it comes to getting your own WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt.
In the wake of Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy sporting the strap after capturing the 2013 NFL rushing title with 1,607 yards on the ground, LeBron James took to Twitter to see how he could get his hands on some heavyweight hardware. While some of the responses were comical (“Pin Randy Orton), the People’s Champ, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told King James it would be in the works soon.
While LeBron James might soon be the only Miami Heat player with his own title strap, he’s certainly not the only non-wrestler to be sporting championship gold. Major League Baseball’s 2013 Cy Young Award winners Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw have some gold coming after their impressive performances on the mound this year.
This honor comes around at an interesting time for LeBron James. James just sat for his first game of the season Saturday night in Miami’s 108-107 win over the Portland Trail Blazers with a strained right groin. In Friday night’s loss to the Sacramento Kings, in which LeBron sustained said groin injury, King James finished with 33 points, giving him 21,819 and passing Larry Bird (21,791 points) and Gary Payton (21,813 points) in all-time scoring. It puts LeBron James 29th on the NBA’s career scoring list.
And, in addition, it’s LeBron James’s birthday, something clearly not lost on Heat teammate Dwyane Wade. The veteran Miami guard got on Instagram in the early hours Monday morning to wish LeBron a happy birthday, saying “Happy birthday on the west coast 2 my brother from another mother… We’ve had some amazing moments together in our 10yr friendship. Many many more to come.”
And, in more LeBron James news, Sports Illustrated reports that the Hummer H2 that LeBron drove in high school will be auctioned off on eBay. The listing for James’s old ride gives the price as $64,800.00; bids are currently up to $41,100 with slightly more than three days left.
What do you think about LeBron James sporting a championship belt?
