Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone Fight It Out In ‘Grudge Match’ On Christmas Day

Robert De Niro vs Sylvester Stallone? The two stars will be fighting it out in the Grudge Match movie.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Robert De Niro rode a camel in a recent SNL skit.

It seems will be facing a grudge match of a humorous type this Christmas season. And, no, I’m not talking about hiding behind the Christmas tree and watching the family argue and the grandparents cat-fighting. Originally, the Grudge Match movie was scheduled for January but someone on high must have thought it was a good idea to move it into the holiday season (personal issues affecting work?).

Grudge Match finds Sylvester Stallone getting back in the boxing ring once again to face off against Robert De Niro. The last time the actor strapped on the gloves was for the 2006 drama Rocky Balboa. And it’s not like De Niro is a stranger to boxing movies. He once starred as self-destructive fighter Jake La Motta in director Martin Scorsese’s 1980 classic Raging Bull.

The film shows Stallone and De Niro portraying two aging boxers who come out of retirement for one last fight. The boxing pair has apparently endured a bitter rivalry for three decades and they believe it’s time to settle the score. The trick is their last title fight was 50 years ago. But while Stallone is the jokster, De Niro is the serious one. And Stallone sees this distinction important to the story-telling:

“That contrasting is really important. You don’t have two characters trying to outdo each other. If you’ve ever done a scene where a guy’s ad-libbing, he wants to out-ad-lib you, it doesn’t stop. This was very very beautifully balanced.”

Will you be watching Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone duke it out on December 25? Or do you think this is just bad timing for a boxing movie like Grudge Match?
