‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ Screenwriter To Pen ‘Guys And Dolls’ Remake

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay screenwriter Danny Strong will reportedly tackle the upcoming Guys and Dolls remake for MGM.

Although the acclaimed adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical was originally released by the folks over at MGM, 20th Century Fox is the studio behind the proposed remake. To get the ball rolling on the project, producers decided to tap The Hunger Games: Mockingjay scribe to pen the script.

According to Moviefone, a remake of Guys and Dolls was originally in the works a few years ago. Unfortunately, songwriter Frank Loesser’s widow couldn’t reach a deal for the rights. Apparently everything was eventually squared away since the project is finally starting to move forward.

Everyone from Hugh Jackman to Vin Diesel to Russell Crowe reportedly wanted to help out with the proposed Guys and Dolls remake in the past. However, The Inquisitr reported earlier this year that younger actors such as Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were previously eyed for roles in the project. However, their involvement is still up in the air at the moment.

Unfamiliar with Guys and Dolls? Check out this synopsis for the 1955 adaptation:

“All the hot gamblers are in town, and they’re all depending on Nathan Detroit to set up this week’s incarnation of “The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York”; the only problem is, he needs $1000 to get the place. Throw in Sarah Brown, who’s short on sinners at the mission she runs; Sky Masterson, who accepts Nathan’s $1000 bet that he can’t get Sarah Brown to go with him to Havana; Miss Adelaide, who wants Nathan to marry her; Police Lieutenant Brannigan, who always seems to appear at the wrong time.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay writer Danny Strong might seem like an odd choice to pen an update of a Broadway musical, but the guy’s work is actually quite diverse. Not only did he help out with the final chapter of The Hunger Games series, he also wrote the script for director Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

However, most people probably know Danny Strong from his work as an actor. The award-winning screenwriter appeared in several episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls, and Mad Men. His big screen credits include Seabiscuit, the Amanda Bynes comedy Sydney White, and the underrated 2000 comedy Perpetrators of the Crime.
