‘The New Girl’ Casts Linda Cardellini As Jess’ Sister

Watch out fans of The New Girl because here comes Abby, Jess’ wild-child sister. Everyone will be meeting Abby, who’s played by Freaks and Geek’s Linda Cardellini sometime in February.

Of course this isn’t Cardellini’s first time on a well established television show. Cardellini joined the cast of Mad Men playing Sylvia Rosen. Her performance on the show earned the actress an Emmy nomination for Best Guest Actress in a Drama series.

This isn’t the only family member of Jess’ the has been introduced to the group. The New Girl explored Jess’ family previously as the Fox hit introduced Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner as Jess’ folks. Both of her parents are set to reprise their roles sometime in January.

As for Linda Cardellini it’s said that her role will be introduced sometime in February but there’s not specific date given thus far. The good news for Cardellini is that she will have a recurring role, although as of right now we don’t know how many episodes the character of Abby will be in.

Cardellini’s first recognizable screen time as an actress was on the television show in Freaks and Geeks. Although the show only lasted for a season, it went on to become a cult hit, and experienced a nice rejuvenation earning even more fans through Netflix’s streaming service. Before her 1999 cult show, the actress was also featured in Guys Like Us, Boy Meets World, and The Lot.

Before the actress scored roles on ER and Mad Men, she was most known for her role as Velma in the Scooby-Doo films. The first was in 2002 and she took on the voice of Thelma for subsequent games as well.

Just last year The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Cardellini and when the subject of doing comedy came up, it seemed like the actress was down to take a swing at it again.

At the time, Cardellini said, “Yeah, I would love to do some comedy again. It’s been a while; it would be fun to do something comedic, but at the same time it depends on the role. I loved Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig is amazing and hilarious, and I thought Paul did an amazing job.”
