Barack Obama’s Daughters Take Spotlight At ‘Christmas In Washington’ Event
Barack Obama’s daughters took the spotlight from their parents, at the annual Christmas In Washington event.
Sasha and Malia Obama are growing up into beautiful young ladies, as was evident when they joined their parents, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, for Christmas in Washington charity show Sunday night, a holiday tradition in the nation’s capital.
The star-studded line up of performers included Backstreet Boys, Sheryl Crow, Janelle Monae, Pat Monahan, and Anna Kendrick. All proceeds go to the Children’s National Medical Center.
The Obama daughters, dressed in simple, but festive attire spent time with the “elves”, patients from the Children’s National Medical Center, ages four to five-years-old.
Christmas In Washington is in its third decade and as a custom the President usually attends with his family.
The event was hosted by Australian action actor Hugh Jackman and in part, by former NBA player Charles Barkley.
In his remarks to those present, President Barack Obama thanked the performers for their time in “sharing their holiday spirit here with us tonight.”
After joking with his girls that he also liked presents for Christmas, Barack Obama got serious:
“This is also a time to remember the story of a child born to two faithful travelers on a holy night long ago, love the Lord, love our neighbors as we love ourselves; a teaching that has endured for generations and today it lies at the heart of my faith and millions of Americans, and billions around the globe.”
“No matter who we are and where we come from, and how we worship, it’s a message of hope and devotion that unite all of us this holiday season, compelling all of us to reach out and help our less fortunate citizens: our poor, our help, our neighbors and need, and serve those who’ve sacrificed so much on our behalf.”
After Barack Obama’s speech, the first family participated in a rendition of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”

Christmas In Washington with President Barack Obama and the First Family will air on TNT on December 20.
