Lamar Odom knew Khloe Kardashian was planning to end their marriage, but that didn’t stop the former Lakers player from being hurt when the reality star officially filed for divorce.
“He’s deeply saddened by Khloe filing for divorce,” a source told E! News. “He knew it was coming and it was only a matter of time. He felt like he gave his all to try and save the marriage, but ultimately he wasn’t able to.”
The source added, “There will always be a place in his heart for Khloe. He will always love her and her family. She has decided and there is nothing more he can do. He has to accept that.”
Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce December 13, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The couple signed a prenup, so there shouldn’t be a problem when it comes to the division of property. Kardashian is also asking that Lamar Odom’s last name be legally removed from hers. The 29-year-old is not seeking spousal support and is asking that a judge reject any request for spousal support from Odom.
Odom was arrested for DUI in August, shortly after it came out that he was struggling with substance abuse. Different reports claimed that Odom was using crack, cocaine, or prescription pills and that he would go on “drug binges” and be high for days at a time. Kardashian reportedly tried to intervene to no avail, with Odom “going missing” for 72 hours at one point. After his DUI arrest, it was reported that Odom had been involved in a car accident days earlier.
Kardashian and Odom married on September 27, 2009, a month after meeting a party for Odom’s former teammate Metta World Peace. Kardashian removed her middle name, Alexandra, to include her married surname, and legally changed her name to Khloe Kardashian Odom.
