Britney Spears’ Latino ‘Bad Boy’ Remark Sparks Internet Backlash [Video]
Britney Spears sparked some controversy online after a comment about Latino men.
The singer is currently trying to promote her new album, Britney Jean, and her upcoming Las Vegas residency. To spread the good word about her endeavors, Spears made an appearance on the Spanish morning chat show Despierta America. It didn’t take long for things to take a turn for the worse.
According to the International Business Times, a quick question about the Latin culture resulted in a comment that some folks felt was incredibly offensive. Since Britney Spears didn’t hesitate to bring up a tired stereotype about Latino men, a fair amount of backlash started to bubble up online.
“You live in L.A. and are comfortable with the Latin culture, no? What is the thing you like the most about us?” the interviewer asked the singer.
Instead of giving an answer that approached the Latin culture as a whole, Britney Spears decided to focus on the sexiness of Latino men. Unfortunately, a lot of people thought she fell back on old stereotypes.
“I think it’s very sexy. I’ve always loved Latinos. They make me think of a bad-boy type that your father wouldn’t let you go out with,” she said.

Everyone from Perez Hilton to The Gloss took issue with Britney Spears and her comment about Latino men. Since the singer is known for occasionally putting her foot directly into her mouth, some folks think this is the sort of thing we should expect from Spears.
“I guess I really shouldn’t expect Britney to be at all culturally-sensitive, but I mean, she’s an adult woman. She should know not not to rely on tropes like ‘Latin men are sexy and spicy!’ when talking to a television channel geared towards Latinos,” The Gloss explained.
Of course, not everyone feels that Spears did anything wrong. Although she coughed up a stereotype that is clearly played out, a few of the singer’s fans believe people are making a big deal out of nothing at all. Check out some reactions to the Britney Spears’ remark below.
