Katy Perry Opens Up About Brief Split With John Mayer

Katy Perry and John Mayer briefly went their separate ways not too long ago. Fear not, fans — the two are still going strong at the moment.

Every week there’s new rumors about the singers and their relationships. However, Perry confirmed in a recent interview that she and John Mayer decided to put the brakes on their budding relationship. The time apart ultimately helped strengthen their romance.

According to the folks at ABC News, Katy Perry used her time away from John Mayer to deal with the end of her marriage to comedian Russell Brand. As a result, she was able to fully commit herself to the singer without letting her troubled past get in the way.

“It was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with me. That is what let me to this new awakening, this realizing, if I don’t do some self-love, I’m not going to be able to keep the love that I want,” Perry recently told Marie Claire magazine.

The singer continued, “There were two weeks of my life after I found out the truth of my marriage where I was like, ‘Okay. All right. I can’t feel this. This is too intense right now.’ I was, like, just eating Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and drinking, and that’s it.”

Despite what you may have read, Katy Perry and John Mayer aren’t planning to have kids within the next few months. Since the Grammy-nominated “Roar” singer is planning to kick off a world tour, chances are children aren’t in the cards at the moment.

Perry told the publication:

“I can’t plan that far in advance. When I decide to have a family, I’ll just want to be mom for a little bit. [Brand] really wanted me to have children, and I knew I wasn’t ready — I think it was a way of control. I think it was part of, If I have a kid, then I would have to sacrifice — I’d have to be home more. I really wanted to, but I knew I wasn’t ready for it.”

USA Today points out that Perry doesn’t have any plans to sit back and take it easy right now. Since her career is in full swing, the singer wants to keep the momentum going. After all, there are tons of people out there who wouldn’t mind snagging a Grammy nomination or having one of the most-watched music videos of the year.

“I’m never going to be lazy, because there are 500 other people waiting in line for this position,” Katy Perry explained in the January issue of Marie Claire.
