Danya Morales Fired: Waitress Who Faked Anti-Gay Receipt Loses Her Job

Danya Morales is out of a job after the New Jersey waitress faked a receipt that had an anti-gay comment in the place of a tip.

The waitress made headlines last month when she came forward with a receipt from her restaurant, Gallup Asian Bistro, that appeared to attack her lifestyle. Morales, a lesbian, showed a note in the tip line that read: “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle & how you live your life.”

The anti-gay receipt brought a big reaction to the New Jersey waitress, with donations pouring in to help her. Morales, a veteran, pledged to send all the money to the Wounded Warrior Project.

But within days it was revealed that the receipt was faked. A couple came forward a local family saw the receipt and recognized it as theirs. The subtotal matched their order that day, but the couple produced their copy of the receipt and a copy of their credit card statement showing a 20 percent tip.

The family, who chose to remain anonymous, also said they they have no prejudice against homosexuals and even voted against New Jersey Governor Chris Christie because he did not support gay marriage.

Danya Morales was suspended from her job after the lie came to light, and over the weekend her restaurant decided to make the split permanent. The restaurant announced her termination on Saturday, not long after it was revealed that Morales was returning donations.

“In light of … recent events, both Ms. Morales and Gallop Asian Bistro have made a joint decision that Ms. Morales will no longer continue her employment at our restaurant,” the restaurant wrote. “We wish her well in the future.”

After faking the anti-gay receipt, New Jersey waitress Danya Morales had raised at least $3,000 in donations from a PayPal account. Representatives from Wounded Warrior Project said they did not receive a donation from Morales, however.
