In their first-quarter earnings report on Thursday Motorola announced that they had sold 250,000 units of the Xoom tablet.

According to the report:

“The Company shipped a total of 9.3 million mobile devices, including 4.1 million smartphones and more than 250,000 Motorola XOOM tablets.” while adding, “In the first quarter of 2010, the Company shipped 8.5 million mobile devices, including 2.3 million smartphones.”

The newly formed Motorola Mobility posted net revenues of $3 billion, a 22% year-over-year increase, while their mobile device revenues increased by more than 30% to $2.1 billion.

The company’s GAAP net loss of $0.27 per share was also down from a loss of $0.72 per share after the first-quarter 2010.

While the iPad and iPad 2 tablets may be dominating the market the earnings call from Motorola shows that their is still a market for new competitors to the tablet sector.
