Elsa Pataky didn’t have to worry about husband Chris Hemsworth getting a little too into filming his love scene with Natalie Portman in Thor: The Dark World.
That’s because Pataky herself stood in for Portman, who couldn’t make it back to the Marvel set for a pickup shoot. The script called for the mythical hero Thor to make out with Dr. Jane Foster (Portman) in a scene at the end of the credits.
Luckily Elsa Pataky was able to thrown on a wig and take Natalie’s place.
“It was for reshoots and he was working in Hong Kong and I couldn’t get there because I was working on my own film,” Portman told the New York Daily News. “And so they put his wife in my wig and costume. That’s why it was so passionate.
Elsa Pataky is no stranger to working in front of the camera. She’s been acting since 1997, including a role in the 2011 film Fast Five. She and Chris Hemsworth started dating in early 2010, shortly after Elsa got out of a long-term relationship with fellow actor Adrien Brody.
Elsa’s resemblance to Natalie Portman worked out perfectly on her latest role.
“It was such a perfect solution, wasn’t it?” added Portman of the last-minute fill-in.
Being a mom is a role Elsa said she was born to play, and one that made her more sensitive to the entire world.
“You become more sensitive about a lot of things,” Elsa said of being a mother. “With things like this, the ocean, you want to protect it for your kid to be able to see the world the way I saw it. That’s important for them to not lose it. There are so many animals endangered now in the ocean; it’ll be sad she won’t enjoy all those things.”
Hemsworth is quite smitten with his daughter as well. He spoke with Ellen DeGeneres while promoting Thor all about the tussles they get into at home.
“She’s a little silver-back gorilla, she’s great. She’s so physical. She has this thing of kind of kicking me in the head lately. I lie next to her and it’s just like, foot in the face… maybe I deserve it.”
Liam Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky can be seen together in Thor: The Dark World, but make sure you stay until the end of the credits.
